Dear John,
As legislators prepare to return to St. Paul for the legislative session early next year, they need to hear from you about the so-called Equal Rights Amendment. Earlier this year, the Minnesota Senate voted to advance a proposed amendment that, if passed by the Minnesota House, would put a new version of the so-called Equal Rights Amendment on your 2024 ballot. It is likely to be considered by the Minnesota House during the 2024 Legislative Session which begins in February.
This “updated” version of the ERA would create protections for “gender identity and expression.” If passed by the Legislature and adopted by Minnesotans in Fall 2024, the ERA would be used to trample constitutional rights such as the free exercise of religion, conscience rights, free speech, and free association.
States that pass the ERA are more likely to have state courts mandate that taxpayers fund abortions and so-called "gender-affirming care" (puberty blocking hormones, wrong sex hormones, and so-called "gender surgery") - because not doing so would be "discrimination."
Your Representative will likely be considering this proposed amendment going into the 2024 legislative session. Because this bill is so dangerous, it's important to raise your concerns with legislators even before they return to the Capitol. So please take a moment to ask your legislator to vote NO on the abortion-expanding ERA.
