Friend,
Episode 181 uploaded December 10: Sam Goldman speaks with Matthew D.
Taylor, a Senior Scholar and the Protestant Scholar at the Institute for Islamic, Christian, Jewish Studies, about House Speaker Mike Johnson and the significance and danger
exemplified in Johnson’s ascent to power. Taylor documents Johnson’s
links to leading voices in the Christian Charismatic movement (which
were early adopters of the Trump cult, and unlike mainstream Evangelical
leaders, have never split in their support for Trump).

Dr. Matthew D. Taylor:
One of the interesting things about Mike Johnson is he seems to intersect with and hang out with and connect with all of these major institutions of the religious right groups that many people would call fringe. They became much more mobilized and connected, much more mainstream in the Trump era, people that most news readers have never heard of, but who are very, very extreme figures, who were very central to January 6.
