The webinar begins with the New Deal's Wagner Act legalizing collective bargaining then continues through the ebbs and flows of labor's empowerment up to this year's surge in unionization and successful strikes.
Speakers will focus on both the political and economic context of government policy and the challenges and opportunities for union activism. The first half of the program features Prof. Kate Bronfenbrenner, Director of Labor Research at Cornell University, Kevin Baker, historian/author and Ed Ott, prior director of NYC Labor Council.
The panelists to follow will discuss strategies and activism of the last few years of labor activism. The panelists are organizers of three important unions, Rebecca Damon, Executive Director, New York Local, Labor Policy and International Affairs of SAG-AFTRA; Michelle Kuchinsky, Coordinator for the Writers Guild of America East and Gracie Nira, Staff organizer Starbucks Workers United and Workers United.
The Living New Deal documents the vast legacy the New Deal (1933-1942) left to America
