Last month, I joined my friend, Congresswoman Hillary Scholten, in West Michigan to lead an announcement of her endorsement of my campaign. This endorsement, in particular, means a lot to me. Ever since Hillary flipped her seat in 2022, it has been wonderful to see her fight on behalf of West Michiganders and help pave the Democratic infrastructure in the fast-growing (and traditionally Republican) part of the state.

I am thankful for Hillary’s endorsement, and I am writing with the hope that I can earn your support as well.

Let me get you caught up on where things currently stand in this Senate race. Since the great Senator Debbie Stabenow announced that she was retiring, things have really heated up in Michigan: CNN named us one of the 10 Senate seats most likely to flip in 2024, and top political insiders are saying that Michigan is the state most likely to decide the presidential election.

And over the last two months, we’ve seen three serious Republican candidates enter the race: former Congressman Mike Rogers, former Detroit Police Chief James Craig, and former Grand Rapids Congressman Peter Meijer, who represented this area before Hillary. All three have unfortunately done the predictable thing and immediately started saying whatever they can to appeal to the most extreme parts of the GOP in order to win.

But the Senate majority isn’t the only thing on the line in 2024. Experts are already saying that Hillary’s district in West Michigan remains a battleground in the fight for the House majority, and Republican groups are already spending big in their efforts to unseat Hillary. And, as I alluded to, West Michigan has really become a political powerhouse in the state, making success there instrumental in my efforts to win statewide.
