Dear Friend,

The struggle for Palestinian rights and an end to the violence isn’t new. Now, with a genocide happening before our very eyes, and 1.8 million Palestinians already displaced, it’s more urgent than ever. That’s why the Arab American Institute is joining Reverend Jesse Jackson and others this Friday and Saturday, December 15-16, in Chicago for an emergency summit to call for a ceasefire on Gaza. This summit is bringing together diverse constituencies to save lives.

The Palestinian struggle has always been part of Rev. Jackson’s work for justice. When few were addressing it outside of those who closely watched Middle East issues, Rev. Jackson led a delegation of American religious leaders to the Holy Land to “seek reconciliation” and peace in 1979. In 1988, Jim was told, “If you even put the P-word in the [DNC] platform, all hell will break loose.”

Rev. Jackson and Jim stuck to their principles then – the issue of Palestinian human rights was brought to the delegates' attention. Posters and shirts that said “Palestine Lives” were distributed throughout the convention. As Jim said then, the “deadly silence was broken.” The movement to support Palestine was elevated and continues to grow today. And we need you to be an active part of it if we are to save lives.

This nightmare must end. We are joining together to call on Congress and the Biden Administration to demand an immediate ceasefire, an end to the Israeli bombing.

The emergency summit will convene leaders representing diverse ethnic communities, faith traditions, civil rights, and peace organizations. It will feature panels on aspects of this conflict, namely: its history and impact; its domestic political and civil rights implications; the dangers this conflict poses to the U.S., including the deep polarization and rise in hate crimes happening at home U.S. right now, and strategies for moving forward. This cannot go on. The bombings and siege must stop and civilians must be released. Join us in Chicago this Friday and Saturday, to say “Enough!” RSVP now [[link removed]] .

Thank you,

Maya
