Dear Reader,
This spring, we sent out a survey to our newsletter subscribers to better understand what was on their minds when it came to teaching and learning math.
To be clear, seeking input from our audience isn’t just a gesture; we genuinely care about what they have to say because it’s essential to our work.
And here’s where my colleagues and I get really lucky: Hechinger readers have a lot of knowledge. So, thank you!
One thing we heard from so many of you was a concern about math anxiety, for all levels of learners. Our early education reporter, Ariel Gilreath, was inspired to understand why, so she explored the issue from the perspective of teachers.
Put simply, a lot of elementary school educators hate the prospect of teaching math, even when the math concepts are beginner-level. Ariel’s story featured the efforts of organizations seeking to build teacher confidence in math and, in a live conversation on LinkedIn, she discussed the issue alongside some of the individuals interviewed for her article.
That deeply reported, solutions-oriented journalism was sparked by readers. And now, we’re encouraging you to join the other educators, policymakers, parents, guardians and journalists who foster community and support The Hechinger Report.
