Dear LULAC Familia,
Please be advised that we at LULAC National Headquarters and LULAC leaders
throughout the country are monitoring the developments of the pandemic very
closely, COVID-19 otherwise known as Coronavirus. Since this is a fluid and
changing situation, we are following the advice and guidance of the Centers for
Disease Control (CDC) [ [link removed] ] ,
the World Health Organizations [ [link removed] ]
and other national public health officials in taking every precaution to protect
our community, members, and staff.
In these trying times, we would like to remind you to take care of each other,
particularly the most vulnerable among us which are our senior citizens and
people who have chronic underlying conditions that can make them more susceptible
to Coronavirus. We would also like to urge you to follow the direction of
government officials and authorized health experts. Sadly, there is a spike in
disinformation which seeks to confuse and harm our communities. In addition to
LULAC, other legitimate sources of information are the Centers for Disease
Control ( English here [ [link removed] ]
/ Español aquí [ [link removed] ] ) and
the World Health Organization [ [link removed] ] .
As a result of this national emergency, the LULAC National Women’s Conference and
the National SER meeting have been postponed to a later date yet to be determined [ [link removed] ] .
In addition, given your expressed concerns regarding the timing of the National
LULAC Convention, we are also evaluating the risks and will communicate an update
as soon as it’s available.
Our staff at the LULAC National Office in D.C. will be working remotely starting
Monday, March 16 due to the growing numbers of reported cases of COVID-19 in the
DC Metro Area but the El Paso headquarters will remain open. Our entire team is
monitoring the rapidly-changing pandemic situation and the guidance provided by
our respective authorities. LULAC National CEO Sindy Benavides will also be in
touch with updates as they become available so stay tuned to

Since 1929, LULAC has fought for the civil rights of Latinos and all Americans.
You can be confident that LULAC will fight for our community’s public health
today and into the future. Today, we are asking President Trump and Members of
Congress to ensure they protect Latino and minority communities and those most
likely to be affected by:
* Making sure all COVID-19 (Coronavirus) tests are free to the public and
available for anyone who needs them.
* Confirming treatment and medical care for those who get ill are still covered
by the government if they do not have insurance.
* Committing that all US citizens and immigrants get vital health care coverage
so every person and community is safe from this pandemic.
America has stood strong in the face of many difficult times in the past and I am
confident that we will do so again in this challenging year.
Let LULAC show America we are UNITED!
Hasta La Victoria,
Domingo Garcia
LULAC National President
