Dear John,
Touring Stark County
I recently made visits to Stark County to receive an update on local businesses and important issues in the community.
Since Green Gables started in 2003 in a garage, the Rouse family has grown their furniture business into 200+ stores throughout the country.
You can even see their furniture on the hit show Yellowstone, which made Green Gables their official furniture merchandiser. I appreciate all they do to create jobs and economic opportunities in Illinois!
I enjoyed visiting with Cherrytree Kitchen and Cabinets in Bradford and the Stark County Historical Society in Toulon to speak to their staff and board! I appreciate what both do for the area and how much they mean to the community.
Lastly, I made a stop in Macon Construction to see the important work they do building hoop buildings for Illinois farmers.
Protecting our national security and reforming the FBI
As a member of the House Intelligence Committee, I have led our FISA Working Group to build reforms that better protect the civil liberties of Americans. If Section 702 of FISA expires, it would be a disaster for our national security, but it must be changed to strengthen our national security. Last week, the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence passed our FISA Reform and Reauthorization Act to curb FBI abuses and protect Americans from terrorist threats.
Read my op-ed on our efforts in the Washington Times: Don’t let FISA provision expire; reform it.
Combating China's unfair practices and strengthening trade policy
Recent decisions by the Biden Administration to abandon bipartisan digital trade proposals runs counter to US interests and cedes leverage to foreign powers like China. I joined the POLITICO Tech podcast to discuss digital trade and how we can use our trade policy to strengthen our economic competitiveness.

Happy Hanukkah!
