Dear John,

Today, the Government took a critical first step in removing Labour’s ineffective blanket speed reductions <[link removed]> and restoring higher speed limits where it is safe to do so. <[link removed]>

This means that you will be able to get where you want to go faster, and safely.

Transport Minister Simeon Brown has removed the requirement for councils to implement speed management plans – rules introduced by the previous Labour Government which had resulted in blanket speed limit reductions on local roads and state highways.

Our Coalition Government wants to see a transport system that boosts productivity and economic growth.

Because we know that it’s only with a strong economy that we can reduce the cost of living and invest in the public services we all rely on.

Stopping blanket speed reductions is one of the 49 commitments in the Government’s 100-day plan and we are delivering on it.

More to come.

Thank you,

National Party HQ
