Martin spoke with Boris Sanchez on CNN to explain how our GOSAFE Act will help get deadly weapons off the streets.

One-hundred twenty Americans lose their lives every day to gun violence. Deadly mass shootings are at a record-high since 2006. Gun violence is tearing families and communities apart and making our schools, places of worship, and other public places we frequent feel less safe.

The majority of Americans support stronger gun regulations. After helping pass the first congressional action on gun violence in decades last year, Martin is ready to build on this progress and deliver more meaningful change.

Martin recently spoke with Boris Sanchez on CNN to explain how the Gas-Operated Semi-Automatic Firearms Exclusion (GOSAFE) Act will help get deadly weapons off the streets and prevent mass shooting tragedies:

Martin Heinrich on CNN

Martin is a responsible gun owner and hunter who understands the importance of protecting our communities from gun violence while defending the constitutional right to own a firearm for self-defense, hunting, or sporting. That’s exactly what the GOSAFE Act will do.

Far too often, gun safety legislation focuses on what a gun looks like rather than how it works. This legislation regulates firearms based on the lethality of their internal mechanisms, not easily modifiable cosmetic features.

The GOSAFE Act will also prohibit conversion devices like bump stocks, which allow semi-automatic firearms to increase their rate of fire and essentially operate as machine guns.

It’s a common-sense approach that will save lives. But extreme groups like the NRA are already lining up to oppose it.

That’s why Martin is counting on your support to help make this legislation law. Will you add your name as a citizen co-sponsor of his GOSAFE Act to help end gun violence?
