It’s been nearly eleven years since the unspeakable tragedy at Sandy Hook, and the reality is, that there has been no end to mass shootings and gun violence in America. In truth, it’s only gotten worse. There have already been more mass shootings than days in the year. I am sickened and outraged by the violence and by my Republican colleagues who — tragedy after tragedy — refuse to do anything about it. The gun violence epidemic in our country has impacted the lives of millions of people. Entire communities are being torn apart because Republicans continue to do the gun lobby’s bidding. The extremist GOP is choosing money over lives, over and over again. We can't keep living like this. There are proven, common sense policies Congress can pass right now that we know work: Universal background checks, banning the sale of semiautomatic assault weapons, and implementing risk protection orders also known as red flag laws as a start.
