We’re in the final hours of the COP28 climate conference. We thought we were the closest we've ever been to an international agreement to end coal, oil and gas. But now, that agreement has gone up in smoke.

As it stands right now, the COP draft agreement is BAD: it won't keep our planet and people safe. Even Toeolesulusulu Schuster, the chair of the Alliance of Small Island States, said that this agreement is a “death sentence” for his people and small island nations around the world.¹

But it’s never over until it’s over. We can still get our demands for a fast, fair phaseout of fossil fuels over the line, but we need your help. The U.S. must get behind the small island states and hold the line for a fast and fair phaseout of fossil fuels.

To make that happen, we need to pile the pressure on one of the most key delegations at COP: our own.

The U.S. has stalled and played diplomatic games while letting Saudi Arabia take the blame. However, any agreement requires the support of the U.S., so it is critical that they step up and walk the talk. If they really support a fossil fuel phaseout, they will hold the line for a better COP text.

We know that Biden’s Climate Team is influenced by what we do.

After nearly 30 years of COPs, the fact that they’re even talking about phasing out fossil fuels is because of the thousands of letters, messages, calls and posts they received from all of us.
