We should’ve asked before, but do you know exactly what an FEC deadline is?

Before we ask you to chip in towards our critical FEC End-of-Year goal, here’s a crash course on FEC deadlines.*

*If you’re too busy for a quick explainer, chip in $25 now and save this information for later.

What’s the FEC? The Federal Election Commission (FEC). Their job is to enforce campaign laws and monitor the money coming into and out of federal campaigns.

How does the FEC report work? At the end of each fiscal quarter, ALL federally-registered campaigns, PACs, and party committees are required to file a comprehensive financial report with the FEC.

What happens after the deadline? The FEC searches for red flags like illegal contributions from foreign governments and other sketchy sources; or spending on non-campaign expenses (so you’re not unknowingly donating to someone’s tropical vacation).

After two weeks, these reports become publicly available to supporters, opponents, journalists, political operatives, pundits, and everyone in between.

Why is the deadline SO important? Listen – we believe transparency is the cornerstone of trust in our political system. But that transparency means that we can’t just bluff and brag about helping Senate Democrats raise lots of $$$ – we actually have to deliver.

Where do I come into this? We value your small-dollar contributions so much : You’re proving we draw support from a large and diverse grassroots base, not a handful of ultra-wealthy mega-donors.

Vulnerable Senate Democrats are facing their FINAL FEC deadline of the year in just a few weeks. Will you rush $25 or more before MIDNIGHT to give Democrats a much-needed boost before this critical deadline?
