Hey friend,

I'm back in the city I was born in — Dubai — to represent the California Environmental Voters Education Fund, which is hosting the California delegation at COP28.

Yeah, that’s right friend — we are LEADING the delegation representing the fifth largest economy at the United Nations’ biggest annual climate change conference, Conference of the Parties (COP).

Our delegation is joined by a small group of organization leaders and legislators as we exchange ideas, monitor current progress, and plan for the future.

At this year’s COP28, I have the pleasure of attending alongside our Senior Political and Organizing Director Mike Young, the COO of The Climate Center, the Policy Director for The Climate Registry, and four California legislators

Our goal in Dubai is to discuss the world’s collective progress towards the landmark 2015 Paris Climate Agreement — limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels and no higher than 2 degrees.

Every day at COP, we’ve been seeking to learn from other observers and parties, form new partnerships, and share examples and model legislation that will contribute to advancing climate progress at home and worldwide. Last Friday, we hosted a breakfast with The Climate Center, bringing together multiple California-based nonprofits and legislators to plan for the conference’s second week.

As an environmental leader on track to become the fourth largest economy in the world, California is a force to be reckoned with at this conference. It is absolutely necessary for us to be there every year to show the world what innovative solutions and big steps forward we have been taking, and to learn from other countries’ actions so we can implement them here.

And with this year's conference hosted by an oil executive, it is especially critical that EnviroVoters Ed Fund and the California delegation continue to be the voice for aggressive climate action on the global stage. As a result of a treaty conceived at last year’s COP, California became the largest economy in the world to pass the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty, which calls for a plan to phase out fossil fuel production and replace it with clean energy.

Friend, we’re only able to lead the California delegation at COP — and continue to push our state government to lead on climate globally — with the generosity of members like yourself. Can you chip in $10 or more to make sure we can continue our world-changing leadership?

I am really looking forward to networking, collaborating, and seeing what agreements come out as we go into the second week at COP.

I’ll be keeping you updated!
