Republicans just held a cynical hearing to attack, in their words, “President Biden’s takeover of broadband.” (1)
In reality, the hearing was just the latest attempt to slow or stop the Federal Communication Commission’s (FCC) proposed new rule to reinstate net neutrality, which has broad support outside of the Big Cable lobbyists and their boosters in the GOP. (2)
High-speed broadband should be free and open for all, not controlled by a few wealthy telecom giants. As Republicans intensify their attacks, it’s vital that we loudly voice our support for the FCC to reinstate net neutrality.
Sign the petition: Reject Republican attacks and restore net neutrality protections!
While Republicans want to characterize net neutrality as a “takeover” of the internet, the fact is that these protections act to keep broadband free and open for all, and out of the hands of Big Cable. These protections would especially serve rural communities, communities of color, and others who have historically had less access to high-speed internet. (3)
Net neutrality remains hugely popular with Americans of all kinds. In October, LeftNet joined Demand Progress and over 30 partner organizations to relaunch BattleForTheNet.com, so people can tell the FCC and Congress why net neutrality is important to them. In less than two months, over 63,000 people have taken action on the site and filed comments with the FCC.
That’s an incredible start, but we need to keep the pressure on to counter these Republican attacks and get net neutrality across the finish line. The FCC’s comment period closes this Thursday, so please join us and take action right now.
