and where we go from here

Whitehouse for Senate
Team,

I’ve just left COP28 – the United Nations’ annual climate conference – where I joined leaders from all over the world to address the climate crisis and help lead our planet to safety before it’s too late.

And with more and more headlines like these…

Climate Headlines

...we’re running out of time to stop climate change. That's why it's so frustrating that representatives of the fossil fuel industry have been able to absolutely flood this COP. And too often, big companies that make grand pledges on climate are actually hiring lobbying groups that go to Congress to kill good climate bills. I'm going to keep pressing for strong climate political disclosures by COP attendees so we know who the people at the negotiating table are actually looking out for – and whether they're fighting for the wellbeing of the planet, or trying to buy Big Oil more time at everyone else's expense.

At COP28, the Biden Administration announced strong steps that will lower emissions – including a robust social cost of carbon and cracking down on the wasteful super-emitters responsible for outsized damage to the planet.

And even as we continue to see our historic Inflation Reduction Act go into effect to reduce pollution, America needs more ambitious climate policies to bend the emissions curve enough to avoid the worst effects of climate change. The path to leading the planet to safety includes exposing the special interests paying big money to keep the Republican Party from taking climate change seriously.

That’s why I’m asking if you can chip in today to send me and my fellow Democrats back to the Senate next year – we need to end the fossil fuel industry’s grip on the GOP, expand our Senate majority, and pass legislation to avert climate disaster.

Thank you for your ongoing support in this fight,

Sheldon Whitehouse
