Our 2022 alumni and all-star State Senator Darrin Camilleri was recently named 2023 Michigan AFL-CIO State Legislator of the Year for being an outspoken voice on labor issues, authoring the legislation that repealed Michigan’s right-to-work law, and restoring collective bargaining power for workers across the state.
Many of our alumni are also moving up and running for statewide or federal office — including Washington State Senators Emily Randall and Manka Dhingra, and Virginia Delegates Briana Sewell, Elizabeth Guzman, and David Reid!
We endorsed almost all of these candidates in their very first runs for public office, and our early support was critical to building their name recognition and viability.
⭐ Legislative victories!
With a new Democratic trifecta, 2023 was an unprecedented year for ambitious, progressive legislation passed in Michigan. Over the past three cycles, we’ve endorsed 9 candidates and supported 3 power-building organizations — and the hard work has paid off with such trailblazing initiatives as bold climate action, codifying reproductive rights, sweeping gun safety reform, and more!
And despite Republican Governor Lombardo’s veto power in Nevada, Democrats passed meaningful legislation to protect reproductive healthcare and democratic progress and invest in education.
