John,

As we continue to monitor the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation and its impact on our community and daily lives, I wanted to reach out with a few updates.

While my fellow members of congress and I are promptly taking action to ensure that this public health crisis is addressed swiftly and correctly, there are few preventative actions you can take to keep yourself, your family, and our North Texas community as safe as possible during this time.

Here are some helpful guidelines recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC):

Clean your hands often:
-Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
-If soap and water are not available, use hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
-Avoid touching your face with unwashed hands.
-When coughing or sneezing, cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or the inside of your elbow and immediately wash your hands after.

Avoid close contact with people who are sick:
-If COVID-19 is spreading in your community, stay home when you can -- limiting travel and large social gatherings as much as possible.

If you do become sick, stay home -- except to receive necessary medical care.
-Know the symptoms -- if you are experiencing difficulty breathing, shortness of breath, fever, or cough, isolate yourself and contact your doctor.
-When scheduling a medical appointment, call ahead to tell your medical provider that you may have COVID-19.
-Avoid public areas such as work, school, and public transportation and wear a mask if you must be around other people.

For additional information and updates, please visit the CDC’s COVID-19 website.

It’s critical that we take the necessary measures to keep our community as healthy as possible in the coming weeks. We can weather this situation and greatly reduce the long-term impacts if we work together and be mindful of the needs of those around us.

Thank you for doing your part.

-Colin
