AFSP regularly works with entertainment companies and creators to provide evidence-informed consultation on how to safely handle the topic of suicide. We recently advised on the creation of the bestselling novel “Whalefall” by Daniel Kraus – an adventure story featuring a young character trapped inside the body of a whale while on a psychological quest to process the death of his father, a deep-sea diver, who recently died by suicide.

The story explores how various loved ones may react to a death by suicide differently, and portrays a character whose risk factors and warning signs gradually become apparent to the reader. The book features a 2-page Resources Section letting readers know about AFSP’s programs and encouraging them to find their local chapter. The film rights have been sold to the novel, meaning even more readers will find their way to this information in the coming years!

We are excited to give away 20 copies of the book. Fill out the form below by 11:59 pm ET on December 12, 2023 – for an extra chance to win, follow us on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and sign up for our monthly Hope Hub newsletter through the link.
