News about the coronavirus, or COVID-19, changes every day, and we are working tirelessly to keep San Francisco safe. I want to keep you up to date with the latest information, and necessary steps you should take to keep you and your family safe.

First, the City has launched a one-stop website that links to content from the SF Department of Public Health and the SF Office of Economic and Workforce Development. This site has City updates and other vital COVID-19 information.‬

District 10
Aside from banning events with more than 1,000 people as recommended across San Francisco, we have had to take other precautions to lead by example.

Our District 10 Office has:


Canceled reparations convenings across the City

Canceled meetings with residents and property management at City Hall

Canceled events like Black Cuisine and the groundbreaking of a brand new community and education center in Bayview

These are just some examples of how we are trying to model what is requested of us during this pandemic. Please know that all of our City’s leadership is working with medical experts to take all necessary precautions to keep people safe.

Across San Francisco
There are provisions being made by my colleagues on the Board of Supervisors and me, along with City leadership for small businesses and individuals being negatively affected economically due to COVID-19:



We are delaying taxes for local small businesses

Legislation to protect families from evictions during this time

Resolutions pushing banks to not default on mortgage payments and for utilities to extend protections for people who cannot work due to COVID19

Supporting nonprofits funded by the City so workers don’t lose their incomes

Advocating for support from state and federal government for workers and businesses (like extending unemployment benefits)


We will continue to do everything we can to mitigate negative economic impacts for all affected communities.

SFUSD
San Francisco (March 12, 2020) - SFUSD is closing schools to students for 3 weeks beginning Monday, March 16 through the end of regularly scheduled spring break (which ends Friday, April 3). Staff will be working part of this time to prepare and train on how to educate and support community health during this epidemic.

During this 3-week period, all school building activities for students, including school day instruction and extracurricular activities, childcare, before and after school services, health services, and enrichment will be canceled. The district is exploring with the City and County of San Francisco and community organizations what it can do to support students and families while schools are closed for the two weeks before spring break.

Public health officials recommend that families who need to make arrangements for childcare during closure should try to avoid leaving children with older relatives and others who are more vulnerable to complications from COVID-19. Students should stay home and minimize social contact as much as possible to keep their adult family members safe.

SFUSD will continue to provide frequent updates, including more details in the following days.

We are working to ensure students are able to receive meals during this time and working to provide a safe place for students to go while schools are closed.

We also are working to maintain our emergency meal services for seniors and will have more details to follow on this as well.

Lastly, I urge everyone to use common sense solutions like washing your hands for 20 seconds with soap and water, avoid touching your face, staying home from work if you feel sick, and avoiding contact with a sick person.
