Hi there, friend, it's Debbie. I'm about to ask you to make a donation to support my grassroots campaign to defeat Rick Scott here in Florida. But first, I'm hoping you'll let me tell you a story about doughnuts.

(If you're short on time and ready to chip in, you can click here to help me flip Florida blue! My race is neck and neck, so every gift makes a difference.)

Rick Scott and I don't have much in common. He wrote the plan to end Social Security and Medicare; I spent my time in Congress fighting to defend these lifesaving programs. He made a massive fortune as the CEO of a company convicted of the largest Medicare fraud in history; I've spent my life working for nonprofits and serving my community. He's used his time in public office to push a far-right agenda and get richer; I've used my time in office to fight for working families like mine.

But there's one thing that we do share: We both got our start in the doughnut business.

For Rick Scott, that looked like buying two doughnut shops as a business investment when he was a young man. Owning these shops was his first foray into corporate America.

But for me, a teenager back then and an immigrant, the doughnut business offered a minimum wage job that I could work before homeroom. It was hard work, but my small paychecks helped make up the gap each month so that my mom could pay the bills.

To me, doughnuts represent a lifeline that helped my family afford rent.Β To Rick Scott, they represent the beginning of the private corporate career that made him a mega-millionaire.

If you ask me, our differing stories in the doughnut business make the differences between us pretty clear.

I know we can win β€” and new polling data shows this race is already tied! But Rick Scott spent $64 million of his own money to buy this seat in 2018, and he's already shelled out $3 MILLION to pay for new attack ads. I can't win this race without your help. So please, if you have anything to spare, will you rush $5 now to defeat Rick Scott and give Floridians the leadership they deserve?

Thank you for taking the time to read this email and for all that you do to power my grassroots campaign.

With gratitude and love,

Debbie
