1) Trump’s Surprisingly Strong Environmental Record
When Donald Trump wisely declared last month that one of his first actions in a second term to improve the economy would be to “drill drill drill,” the climate change lobby howled in disgust and accused Trump of trying to destroy the planet.

But his first term environmental shows just the opposite: vast REDUCTIONS in pollution. According to official statistics reported by the EPA, Trump’s cleanup record was one of the best of any modern president. Here were some key findings:

From 2017 to 2019, the combined emissions of pollutants dropped by nearly 7 percent.

In the first three years under President Trump, we saw the following drops in emissions of criteria and precursor pollutants:
* Nitrogen oxide ↓ 16.5 percent
* PM 2.5 ↓ 7.9 percent
* PM10 ↓ 5.5 percent
* Sulfur dioxide ↓ 38.0 percent
* Carbon monoxide ↓ 6.2 percent
* Volatile Organic Compounds ↓ 6.8 percent

As a result of these falling emissions under President Trump, in 2019 we saw a significant improvement in air quality.

Overall, the air we breathe in America is much cleaner than it was 50 years ago.

Between 1970 and 2019, the combined emissions of pollutants dropped by around 77 percent, while the U.S. economy grew by 285 percent. How many school kids know this?

2) Javier Milei Sworn In, Calls for a Free Market Revolution in Argentina
The iconoclastic economist Javier Milei was sworn in as Argentina’s president on Sunday, and his refreshing inauguration speech was like nothing we’ve ever heard from an incoming national leader.

Facing a country where newly published figures show 45% of its 46 million people are in poverty and the economy is on the edge of hyperinflation, Milei pledged a “new era” that will include shock budget therapy, dollarization of the economy, and “a different country, in which the state does not direct our lives. He who (refuses to work), does not get paid….the only way out of poverty is through more freedom.”

He warned that if nothing is done the nation faces “an inflation rate of 15,000 percent a year that we are going to fight tooth and nail to eradicate.”

Step one must be to strictly limit government spending. Over the past 50 years government spending as a share of the economy has almost doubled (see chart).

Will Milei actually keep his promises? It’s a good sign that his first act as president was to cut the number of government agencies in half.

3) Under Canada's Socialized Health System, Patients Often Wait Six Months For Care
With every passing year, America seems to move closer to a government-run medical system. We should look north to Canada to understand what this will inevitably mean for patients receiving timely access to health care.

Last week one of our favorite think tanks, the Fraser Institute, published “Waiting Your Turn,” an annual survey of physicians across Canada regarding medical treatment wait times. The MEDIAN wait time is more than SIX months! The 28-week waiting period for surgeries or other treatments is the longest ever recorded and twice as high as it was 30 years ago.

This is medical progress? Canadians are literally dying to get treatment.

4) We’re Number 18
Speaking of Canada, Canadian children and those from many other nations now outperform children in the U.S. on international grade-level tests. Jeanne Allen from the Center for Education Reform has examined the results and delivered the bad news:

“The Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) – on Tuesday revealed a significant decline in math scores for 15-year-olds in the U.S. compared to 2018, the last test administration, which measures student achievement in math and science in 37 countries finds that once again the US’s record is in the proverbial toilet.”

As for the overall score, the leader of the free world that is supposed to outcompete our rivals in brainpower and innovation ranks, drum roll please, 18th. We are behind Poland and Estonia for God’s sake! Wake up America!

5) Chart of the Day: Green, Green, Gone
The International Energy Administration has become a big shill for the green energy monster, so their latest report claims that the world has reached “peak” fossil fuel use and that green energy will inexorably replace oil, gas, and coal. Never mind that in 2023 the world used more oil and gas than ever before. Their prediction on what happens next is about as credible as the music recording spokesman who infamously declared that “guitar groups are on their way out,” a few months before the Beatles released their first album.

Meanwhile, in 2023 green energy enterprises recorded their deepest losses ever. Green energy returns were 50% behind the average stock returns, as the chart shows:
