Friend-
What a week!
The 2020 legislative session ended yesterday, the impact of COVID-19 began rolling through our community, and we conducted a successful statewide Presidential Primary Election on Tuesday. Throughout all of it, I have been thankful for your support. Over the years it has allowed me to serve as Secretary of State and use my experience to confidently navigate these big challenges.
I want to share what my office is doing to slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus in our communities, while continuing to provide services to our customers in the coming months. Our first response was to activate the Continuity of Operations Plan we have created over the past few years.
My highest priority is protecting the health and safety of the public and our staff members in delivering customer service. To that end, we will be suspending the majority of in-person customer service transactions in our offices across the state starting with office closures Monday. Our services will still be available online and by phone with staff members ready to assist customers.
I am proud to tell you that your support of my vision eight years ago to modernize the office has put us in a strong position to be able to continue to provide services during this pandemic. We have worked hard over the past few years to streamline business filings. By the end of 2019, before the impact of the virus was truly felt, over 90% of our customers were choosing to file online and didn’t need to come into our Olympia office to do business.
Tuesday, nearly 2 million voters were able to participate in the Primary Election. County election officials now have near live time connectivity to conduct statewide elections, which helped effectively implement new election laws, like same day registration.
Years of digitizing archival documents and building chat and other online features will enable increased access to our library and archive collections during our reduced office access.
I hope you and your loved ones remain healthy as we experience the impact of COVID-19 on our community.
I could not do any of this without you. I will keep working on your behalf to do this important work and appreciate your support.
All my best,
Kim Wyman
