Friends,

Doing what we can to help prevent further spread of the coronavirus is a shared responsibility we all need to take seriously.

Public health officials and medical experts at the federal, state, and local levels have issued recommendations on simple steps we can take to keep ourselves healthy and lower the risk of infection for others.

The first thing we can all do to play our part is following these guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control:

  1. Wash your hands frequently and thoroughly with antibacterial soap
  2. Cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze
  3. Limit your exposure to large groups of people
  4. Avoid unnecessary in-person contact
  5. Disinfect surfaces in your home and in your workplace
  6. Stay at home if you’re feeling sick

As a member of the United States Senate, I’ve been working diligently these past few weeks to put pressure on federal officials to improve their response -- by calling for more federal funding for state and local health departments, fighting to require health insurers to cover testing and treatment services without cost-sharing to the patient, demanding that the Senate pass legislation to expand paid sick and family leave, advocating for stronger screening efforts at airports across the country, and pressing for expanded and more easily accessible coronavirus testing.

I want to thank all of the courageous doctors, nurses, first responders, cleaning staff, and so many others who find themselves on the frontlines of this pandemic. We owe each of them a tremendous debt of gratitude.

This is a moment that will require us to work together -- and through our resilience, we’ll move forward together.

Cory
