For my family, that fear became a reality when my littlest sister was born
with a heart condition that required surgeries at a hospital over 100
miles away. Maxed out credit cards and no money left, my parents were
bankrupted by medical bills.

We relied on the generosity of our community in mid-Missouri to make it
through that time. Friends, neighbors, members of our church — everyday
people who had no more than we did, taking care of each other when times
got tough.

That’s something Josh Hawley could never understand. He’s spent his entire
