December 10 is Human Rights Day!

Today is the 75th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Our Children’s Trust grew out of this declaration because we understand that every human right is at stake without a stable climate system.
We celebrate this landmark occasion with a $75,000 challenge.

We won’t stop until every court recognizes and protects the right to a life-sustaining climate system. We put our promises into action.
Tomorrow we will file a brief in the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (Court). Our Children’s Trust joined forces with the University Network for Human Rights, and Defensa Ambiental del Noroeste in a brief to the Court outlining the special obligations countries must undertake to address the climate emergency according to international human rights standards.
We combine protective and emerging national and international jurisprudence, climate science and medical evidence to emphasize how the Court should interpret countries’ obligations to protect human rights, especially our children.
“No profession will bear witness to the impact of climate change more so than pediatricians. We have the expertise to treat children as they come to us with increasing illnesses and life-threatening health problems caused by climate system deterioration. But as pediatricians, we do not have the same authority as judiciaries to urge States to make the urgent and deep emissions cuts necessary to stabilize the climate system.” Dr. Jeffrey Goldhagen, President, International Society for Social Pediatrics and Child Health
21 Youth that have brought rights-based climate cases in U.S. and Canadian courts signed the brief.
1,000,000 + Medical professionals represented by 18 pediatric associations from over 120 countries, including Colombia and Chile joined our Court brief.
2,000,000,000 children are threatened by climate change.
45,467,390 Acres of land burned this summer in Canada—from British Columbia to Quebec.
