Hey, John! My name is Sara Paredes – and I'm a HS junior and volunteer for Florida Women's Freedom Coalition.

I'm 17 and can't sign a petition myself, so I spent my weekends this summer at farmers markets asking random strangers to stop and talk about why we need abortion rights in Florida.

Having these conversations was scary at first, but as a former Girl Scout, I have no problem engaging with strangers 🍪. But this time it's for something much more important than cookies: It's for my own future and the future of my friends and peers.

You'd be surprised how receptive people are even though I am interrupting their shopping, especially when I explain how although abortion rights were taken away by the legislature, we can get them back with a popular vote. Nearly every person I have spoken to is on board.

If that doesn't convince them, I explain how I love my community in Pinecrest and don't want to miss out on building a life here after I go away to college – but that I can't imagine living in a place where I can't even make decisions about my own body.

Protecting our health care autonomy is so, so important, and something that I've learned transcends age, gender and generation.

I see the fight in the older women I volunteer with, women that already lived through a pre-Roe world and fought so hard to prevent the reality that we face today, and I am fired up to make a change.

So now, it's my turn. It's OUR turn, John. 

We have to work together to make sure government interference in health care is stopped once and for all. But I need your help.

Our coalition's petition collection drive still needs petitions in a few more districts before the end of the year. And this whole process requires resources.
