The State Department’s Global Engagement Center, whose mission is to counter disinformation, has an annual program budget of just over $50 million. A recent U.S. government report estimated the cost of fighting China’s disinformation in the billions of dollars.

Worldwide, the disruptions to health care occasioned by Covid-19 also led to decreased access for many families to the health system, causing an estimated 61 million missed doses of measles vaccine.
