You have the power to protect our waterways. From plastic pollution in our oceans to PFAS contaminants in our drinking water — planet protectors like you are critical to our successes this year.
You met Jon; now, meet our next planet protector, Santosh.
This year, Santosh, Waterway Defender and Food & Water Watch Senior Organizer in New York, was up against a big and urgent fight — to stop the planned dumping of radioactive waste into the Hudson River. This toxic dumping was planned by Holtec International, the corporation in charge of decommissioning the Indian Point nuclear power plant in Buchanan, New York.
He tabled, petitioned, phone-banked, and rallied nonstop to alert the public about Holtec’s toxic plans. And he worked closely with local groups to build powerful opposition to the dangerous proposal.
This strong show of resistance delayed the dumping and ultimately led to the passage of the Save the Hudson bill that banned radioactive waste dumping in the cherished scenic river! With Santosh leading the fight, you helped save the Hudson River from radioactive waste pollution.
Food & Water Watch and its affiliated organization, Food & Water Action, are advocacy groups with a common mission to protect our food, water and climate.
