Jack, humiliated former half-term Speaker Kevin McCarthy announced today that he's taking his ball and going home. Yep, he's resigning from Congress. And that is very, very bad news for Republicans. Here's why:
  • The media's breathless, nonstop prognosticating about a 2022 red wave turned out to be total BS. For a party in control of the White House, Democrats had one of the best midterm elections ever. Republicans, meanwhile, just barely managed to win the House with a slim five-seat majority.

  • The expulsion of fabulist Republican George Santos last week cut that majority down by one seat. Kevin McCarthy's resignation, which he says will come by the end of the year, will take it down one more.

  • New York Gov. Kathy Hochul has already set the special election for Santos's seat for February 13. This is a swing seat and Democrats have been cleaning up in special elections lately, so this may very well be a Democratic pick-up, which would be a huge blow for anti-gay extremist and newly minted House Speaker Mike Johnson.

  • But that's not all! Ohio Republican Bill Johnson recently accepted an offer to become president of Youngstown State University. He hasn't yet said exactly when he'll leave Congress, but he will have to resign his seat no later than March 15, 2024, in order to take his job. That is another blow to the House GOP.

  • Let me break down the math for you: If House Democrats vote together, then Republicans can only lose three votes on any issue. If Dems win Santos's seat, that number shrinks to just two—and House Republicans ain't exactly been good at working together so far this year.

  • Also, if Dems flip Santos's seat, then they'll only need to pick up four more to retake the House—while a whopping EIGHTEEN Republicans sit in districts President Biden won in 2020. And right now, against all common sense, Biden-district Republicans are lining up in SUPPORT of the MAGA nuts' deeply, deeply unpopular push to impeach Biden.
You don't need to wait until 2024 to start kicking Republican @$$. Donate $1 to each of these Democratic nominee funds in districts that President Biden won in 2020. Our friends at ActBlue will hold the money in escrow until a Democrat wins the primary in each district, then transfer the funds in one fell swoop. That'll give Democratic congressional candidates in key races a huge influx of cash right when they need it most. Click here to donate now!
