The Untapped Truth: Bottled Water Contributes to our Climate and Water Crisis
We’ve known for years that bottled water is bad for our ecosystems and undermines access to affordable drinking water. But did you know that the plastic from water bottles drives more dirty fossil fuel production and exacerbates the water crisis?
In 2014, New York banned fracking after a years-long grassroots effort to protect our communities, water, and health. Those hard-won protections are now under threat, as a Texas-based company is trying to get around the ban by proposing to frack with carbon dioxide (CO2) instead. Fracking of any kind is dangerous and has no place in our energy plans – that’s why we’re calling on Governor Hochul to come out against Southern Tier Solutions’s CO2 fracking scam.
Everything we do is powered by your commitment to protecting our food, water, and climate. And this year, you have helped create A LOT of incredible change!

In 2024, we are committed to ensuring future generations have a livable climate, drinking water that is affordable and locally managed, and food that is protected. We will also defend our democracy and make sure your elected officials are working for you, not corporations.
We were so excited to include Sandra Steingraber — scientist, activist, and a Food & Water Watch 2023 Honoree — at this year's Against All Odds benefit. To hear more about Sandra’s inspiring story and the critical role she played in the fight to ban fracking in New York, watch her interview with Food & Water Watch.

Biden's Lead Water Proposal is Progress — But Still Not Enough
The EPA proposal would require full lead service line replacement for most systems. While this proposal lays out an ambitious vision for clean water, it requires a deeper commitment to provide the funding necessary to make it a reality.
Congress must step up and pass the WATER Act to provide a permanent, dedicated source of federal funding at the level that EPA says is necessary to comply with federal water quality regulations.
You’re invited to our Livable Future LIVE! monthly virtual webinar series, State of the Climate: Wins (& Losses) and What’s on the Horizon, on December 13, 3:00- 4:00 pm EST, 12:00-1:00 pm PT.
We have faced tough and heartbreaking losses this year, but we’ve also accomplished many bold steps forward. As we head into 2024, it’s the perfect moment to take stock: What have we learned as a movement this year? And what lessons can we bring forward to next year?
Power the Movement for our Planet by Sharing Your Story!
We’re all impacted by threats to our food, water, and climate, and it’s important to share our stories to remember we are not alone and remind others that change is possible.
From the fourth-grade teacher whose fears about climate change keep them up at night to an activist who marched as a child with their family for farmers' rights – our stories show the world that even though we might be impacted or take action in different ways, we’re all working together to protect our loved ones and the health of our planet.
We wish you a very happy and healthy holiday season from all of us at Food & Water Watch! Here’s to a new year filled with sustainable food, clean water, and climate progress!
