Folks–

Earlier this week, the World Health Organization officially declared coronavirus (or COVID-19) a global pandemic. We are all taking steps to respond in our own communities to ensure our clients and staff remain safe. We sincerely hope you and your family are safe. The IRC is also working hard to support vulnerable people like refugee families are at most risk.

Countries in crisis zones, like those where the IRC works, need international assistance to strengthen their capacity to rapidly detect coronavirus, respond, and prevent further transmission of the disease.

This includes helping countries invest in coronavirus infection prevention, medical supplies and drugs, training health workers to treat the symptoms of the disease; and outreach to communities so that people have the knowledge and resources to protect themselves and prevent the transmission of the virus.

You can learn more about our plan to combat coronavirus here. »

As the coronavirus continues to spread rapidly across international borders, the IRC has launched preparedness and response efforts in over 40 countries, predominantly crisis zones and countries with weak health systems which are less prepared to combat the disease, including Afghanistan, Yemen, Venezuela, DRC, and Syria.

That's why IRC health teams are on the ground right now supporting local efforts to contain the virus and further reduce the impact of the outbreak within these communities.

Listen, the IRC is working hard to protect the most vulnerable populations as we combat this global health crisis and continue our lifesaving work. We encourage you to learn more about how we are combatting this crisis and how to support the IRC. »

Sincerely,
– The International Rescue Committee
