Hi team, this is Rep. Mikie Sherrill. I proudly represent New Jersey's 11th congressional district. Growing up, I was captivated by the stories my grandfather told me from his time in the military. He was a B-24 bomber pilot during WWII, so I knew from a young age that I wanted that same sense of mission. Of fighting for something bigger than myself, for the values of freedom and democracy. So I graduated from the Naval Academy in the first class of women eligible for combat and became a helicopter pilot serving missions in Europe and the Middle East. Then in 2018, I started a new mission as NJ-11’s advocate in Congress — and we’ve gotten a lot done since then. From once-in-a-generation investments in our infrastructure to lowering costs for hardworking families, our country is stronger because of our actions. But enough about me. Today is a big day for me and my friend and colleague, Pat Ryan: It’s the Army-Navy Football Game!
This is one of the most historic and competitive rivalries in the country — and as a proud Naval Academy graduate, I’m rooting for Navy to beat Army. But while Pat and I might fall on opposite sides of this rivalry, we’re both committed to delivering results and meaningful progress for the veterans who served in the United States military. We’ve fought for legislation to improve veterans' health care and increase benefits for veterans impacted by harmful burn pits. We’re also both deeply committed to defending our democracy from extremists. Pat and I swore an oath to defend our country from threats, foreign and domestic, and we’re doing just that in the United States Congress.
