It is my pleasure to introduce the 2023 Rural Champions!

One Country Project is fighting year-round for rural communities across the country, and every year, there are members of Congress who stand out for their dedication to rural leadership.

These are folks who provide bipartisan leadership and advance legislation to support agriculture, diversify the rural economy, and improve the lives and well being of rural residents.

These awardees are aligned with our goal to reopen dialogue, rebuild trust, and reconnect Washington with our rural communities.

Our 2023 Rural Champions are:

Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) : Over her 22 year career in the United States Senate, Sen. Stabenow has put rural communities first, drafting the 2014 Farm bill, and contributing to many more. She has also been a leading advocate for rural health care and stood up for rural communities in Michigan and across the country.

Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) : Sponsor of the Rural America Health Corps Act, Sen. Murkowski has been a leading force on rural issues. She's worked to make rural health care more accessible and brought increased funding to rural schools, libraries, and public safety services.

Senator Jon Tester (D-MT) : Sen. Tester is the hardest working seven-fingered farmer I know, and you can see that by just how fiercely he advocates for health care reform in rural communities. Having gone toe-to-toe with administration officials to protect access to care in rural areas, he was relentless in going after Big Pharma to prevent price gouging on prescription drugs. He is definitely a fighter for rural communities.

Representative Gabe Vasquez (D-NM-02) : From boosting rural employment opportunities to increasing resources for tribal education resources, Rep. Vasquez has put in the work for our rural communities. He has sponsored and co-sponsored numerous bills to support the rural economy and ensure that rural families have the opportunities they need.

Representative Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (D-WA-03) : A native of rural Washington, Marie has a track record of working for rural causes. Her support for rural childcare, rural internet access, and economic development, have set her apart. And her work on the REACH Our Tribes Act will bring equitable financial opportunities to large segments of rural America.

One Country Project was created to fight for rural communities and ensure our voices are heard in Washington, D.C. I am pleased to say that we have been able to count on these leaders to work hard for rural America.

Congratulations to our 2023 Rural Champions!

Heidi
