Friend,

Sometimes, it’s nice to get away from Washington. To get away from the extreme politics of today, and back to my home district around real people who just want to get to know each other and rally around each other’s challenges.

I was born and raised here in Rockford. Like you, I’m not a career politician. I’m just a guy who cares about Northern and Western Illinois, our families, our neighbors, and our world.

Ultimately, in our district and around the country, we want the same things, like for working families to live in safe neighborhoods with reliable infrastructure, affordable goods, and quality jobs.

And it’s not easy in this environment of hate and division that extremists promote, but we have to always keep focus on the ones doing the work, not those yelling the loudest. Coming home clarifies that, just like it’s clear that the most important work I do happens here at home.

Getting outside of politics always makes clear there are way more good people than bad. And that our best days are when we work together to solve problems, not rip each other apart over our differences.

When I’m back home, I come back energized in the belief of our communities, and remain driven by these truths:

We can respect one another.

We can allow people to make their own decisions on how to be happy and healthy.

We can work together to solve real problems.

We will solve real issues with relationships and hard work.
