Dear OCCRP Reader,

When you investigate powerful people, security is a primary concern.

Multiple journalists in the OCCRP network have been targeted with Pegasus, a military-grade spyware that can infect phones without any user interaction. Others have had their homes broken into or raided by state security. Some of our colleagues face the threat of physical harm just for doing their jobs.

These incidents underscore a growing problem: Corrupt governments and crooks can now acquire sophisticated surveillance tools and recruit cybercriminals and thugs to target journalists with impunity.

To counter this crisis, OCCRP is stepping up the security training and assistance we offer our network. If someone threatens one of our colleagues, we want to be ready to help. But we can’t do this alone — we need your support.

By becoming an OCCRP Accomplice today, you will directly help us keep journalists safe.

"It is really important that we have organizations in journalism that are committed to strengthening the work we do." — Aldo Benitez

If you’re interested in learning more about how we’re addressing security threats against our network, you should watch our two latest OCCRP Discussions, which are available to members of our Accomplice program.

Thank you for being a valued reader and considering supporting OCCRP.

Sincerely,
