Dear neighbor,

After next week, Congress is scheduled to adjourn for holiday recess. Early next year we will be facing yet another disruptive government shutdown due to the extreme MAGA Republican majority’s inability to govern. You would hope, with this deadline looming, that they would schedule votes on critical government funding bills to avoid a shutdown. Unfortunately, that’s not what is happening.

In fact, there is no indication that Republicans will schedule votes on any funding bills before next year. It seems that this do-nothing majority has simply given up on their responsibility to keep our government functioning. Instead, they are focused on impeaching President Biden with absolutely no evidence. What does this do for the American family? It’s simple—nothing. Watch my full remarks on the extreme MAGA impeachment sham below.

Despite the Republican majority’s chaos, crisis, and confusion, House Democrats continue to put people over politics to deliver for American families. This week I was pleased to introduce Tyler’s Law, a bipartisan bill aimed at preventing fentanyl overdoses in the United States. The bill would direct the Department of Health and Human Services to study how often emergency rooms test for fentanyl in individuals experiencing an overdose and to use the results of the study to implement guidance for hospitals.

Named in memory of Tyler Shamash, a 19-year-old boy from Los Angeles who died in 2018 following a fentanyl ingestion, Tyler’s Law will help public health officials and physicians more accurately determine a course of care for individuals experiencing overdose, which could prevent some fentanyl-related deaths.
