I wanted to tell you myself that last Friday, I voted to expel George Santos from the House of Representatives.

This is not a vote I took lightly. In fact, before there was a thorough report from the Ethics Committee, I was initially against expulsion. I’m not in the habit of second-guessing voters.

But when the Ethics Committee released its report and it became clear that Santos had lied to his voters, stolen campaign funds, and tricked those in his district into electing him, then I had to support his expulsion from the House.

This is the people's House. The people of New York’s 3rd district deserve to have their voices represented in Congress. They don’t deserve to be tricked by a charlatan who is now facing many, many serious criminal charges, and who was unable to provide any defense of his actions to the Ethics Committee.

But the House Republican leaders who supported and empowered Santos while defending him on Friday — they have all the power in the House. And the only way we’re going to change that is to retake the majority.
