Meet YIMBYs running for office!

SF YIMBY is excited to early endorse two power YIMBYs running for the Democratic County Central Committee (DCCC) in March:

Mike Chen is a long-time volunteer Lead and organizer in SF YIMBY and Northern Neighbors. If you have come to a YIMBY event or have been in the Slack, you've seen him organize events, promote leadership, drive public comment, discuss policy, and recruit members. Mike Chen has done a lot for SF YIMBY and we are excited to support him for office! You can donate to his campaign here.

Parag Gupta is a national board member of YIMBY Action. He is the Chief Program Officer of Mercy Housing, the largest US nonprofit affordable housing provider for families, seniors, and people with special needs. Parag has bolstered YIMBY Action's national growth while supporting more housing at home in the Sunset. We are excited to support Parag Gupta for DCCC! You can donate to his campaign here.

We encourage YIMBYs to attend two upcoming campaign events to support these candidates:

  1. Sunday, December 10, 5-7 PM for Mike Chen at NEON, 1974 Union Street, San Francisco 94123 (Cow Hollow)
  2. Sunday, December 17, 4-6 PM for Parag Gupta, Mike Chen, and Sara Barz at Ocean Ale House, 1314 Ocean Avenue, San Francisco 94112 (Ingleside)

Stay tuned for more endorsements and an endorsement ballot for members!

Tell SF Government: We need more housing!

In January, San Francisco will propose a re-zoning plan to allow taller housing buildings across San Francisco. This is very exciting and we need your help to make this the best plan possible. Take the SF Planning Department's Rezoning Survey (15 minutes) and follow the guide to tell the city that we need to maximize housing in the city's new zoning plan.

We won a good housing bill!

On Tuesday, the Board of Supervisors passed the Constraints Reduction Ordinance sponsored by Mayor London Breed, Supervisor Joel Engardio, and Supervisor Matt Dorsey in the 9-2 vote. We are thankful to the supervisors and Land Use Committee Chair Myrna Melgar for getting the bill across the finish line, avoiding state penalties. This landmark legislation will remove many hearings and delays from new housing projects in San Francisco. In combination with other efforts around re-zoning and process, we are optimistic that this will lower costs and create more housing.

Thank you for contacting your supervisor in support of this legislation!
