40 CFT members take part in the California Labor Federation Convention
On Tuesday, December 5, delegates to the California Labor Federation gathered in Oakland for the body's Pre-Primary Convention. Delegates voted to endorse hundreds of candidates for the State Legislature, the US House of Representatives, and the U.S. Senate. They also voted to support Proposition 1, which is the mental health bond that will be on the March primary ballot. Notably, delegates voted for a triple endorsement of Barbara Lee, Katie Porter, and Adam Schiff for U.S. Senate, which is in alignment with CFT's own open endorsement in this race with three stellar candidates.
CFT sent over 40 delegates from around the state to the Pre-Primary Convention and had representatives from all divisions of CFT, including classified members, K-12 teachers, community college faculty, and UC-AFT members. The CFT turnout was one of the best ever to a Labor Fed event and attendees enjoyed the lively debate about critical races that voters will consider in the March primary. To receive the endorsement of the California Labor Federation candidates and issues must receive two-thirds support from the body.
Labor Fed delegates will meet again to take up races for the November general election, as well as other governance matters, at their next convention in July in San Diego.
CFT is always proud to participate in the House of Labor and to raise our voices to support pro-public education and pro-worker candidates and issues. Thanks to all the CFT delegates who took part in the convention!
