December 8, 2023   The Friday File       Guest Column Lee Zeldin Former United States Congressman and 2022 Republican Nominee for New York Governor Hannukah Begins with Sorrowful Rememberances Today is the first day of Hanukkah. Jewish families across America are coming together to light their menorahs, eat latkes, and sing songs to celebrate the holiday. This year, the story of Hanukkah resonates deeply with Jewish families, including my own, following the atrocities we all witnessed in Israel on October 7. The story of Hanukkah takes place thousands of years ago when the Jews faced the threat of extinction under rule of the Greek Empire. Despite facing persecution, many resorted to studying the Torah in caves, taught their children to read Hebrew by using dreidels, and hid their religious identity from the Greeks. When they had finally left Jerusalem, the Jewish people survived, but returned to find the Holy Temple destroyed. The Greeks defiled holy sacraments, scriptures, and ultimately destroyed all of the oil reserves, except for one small cup, which would last them one night. The miracle of Hanukkah comes when this small cup ends up lasting eight nights, and this small flame on the menorah has radiated light to millions of Jews around the globe for generations. Thousands of years later, the core principles of this story have never been more applicable to current events. On October 7, Hamas terrorists unleashed the greatest single-day attack against Jews since the Holocaust. They massacred over 1,400 Israelis, beheading babies, raping women and men, and destroying entire Kibbutzes in the process. Hamas’ charter calls for the destruction of Israel and the extermination of the Jewish faith. That is Hamas’ ultimate goal. Even further startling is the rampant antisemitism in our own government, on our streets, and on our college campuses. We saw this week how the Presidents of Harvard, University of Pennsylvania, and Massachusetts Institute of Technology refuse to declare that calling for the “genocide of jews” violates their campus’ code of conduct. They say it's just a “matter of context.” The illest poison surrounding antisemitism in America comes from shocking stories of Jewish students being physically harassed on campus, professors having to quit jobs they loved for many years, and faculty turning their backs on students seeking help through this traumatic time. We, as Jews, have overcome persecution time and again, and as we face a similar enemy, we must look back to find inspiration in the story of our ancestors. Hanukkah is the festival of lights. We celebrate how just a small wick of flame illuminates the darkness, and we need to find some of that light in the darkness we face today. We must stand resolute in the face of evil, united, and proud of our faith. The times we are facing are extremely dark, but in the end, light must always prevail. All Rights Reserved.     KSGOP in Leadership Position at Colorado Supreme Court Mike Brown See the ABC News article CLICK HERE The Kansas Republican Party filed an amicus brief with the Colorado Supreme Court last week on November 29, arguing to keep President Donald Trump on the Colorado ballot. In this briefing, the KSGOP proudly leads the Republican parties, including the Republican National Committee (RNC) and the state parties of Colorado, Michigan, Oklahoma, West Virginia, Wyoming, North Dakota, Wisconsin, Delaware, Georgia, Nebraska, Maine, Idaho, and Rhode Island in pursuing a rationale and common sense outcome. The KSGOP presented the case that Kansas Republicans would be irreparably harmed if Colorado were to remove Trump’s name from their ballot. Should this occur, Trump would have no delegates from this state at the Presidential Nominating Convention in Milwaukee in 2024, diluting the value of a Kansas vote and making it ever more difficult for him to secure the nomination. And that is precisely the other side's shameful and selfish end game. The Kansas Republican Party is proud to be a leader in this critical effort. It is an honor to play a role in this ugly chapter in American History. I would also like to thank Ben Sisney, Esq., and the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ) for their work in this case, and others, and for zealously representing the Colorado Republican Party as an intervened party in this lawsuit. Without these amazing Patriots and many others, our republic would not be so robustly defended against these flagrant assaults on America and our ideals of fairness and justice. On a personal note, those who are trying to keep President Trump, or any other legitimate candidate, off their states’ ballot simply to accomplish their selfish goals of “winning at any cost” are reprehensible and unAmerican. These people not only deserve to lose this case but also must be ashamed of the selfish risk they’ve taken with America’s future hanging in the balance.     SEL is Like a Trojan Horse Linda Highland SEL is billed as programs that build emotional well-being and teach anti-bullying/anti-suicide programs. However, SEL acts like a trojan horse to smuggle topics into the schools with parents unaware that their children are being exposed to discussions on race, gender, sex, drugs, pornographic books, religious beliefs, sharing circles, being surveyed, and much more. The Kansas Communities That Care (KCTC) is just one example of a survey that has been widely used in Kansas schools from its inception in 1994 as a tool for collecting data and receiving grants. How much federal grant money does KDADS receive for you to administer the KCTC to students in 6th, 8th, 10#, and 12" grades with hour long survey questions like: "Have you ever seriously thought about killing yourself?" "Have you ever made a plan about how you would kill yourself?" "Have you ever tried to kill yourself?" In 2012 when SEL began in Kansas schools, it was also the year that suicide among our youth became the second leading cause of death, according to KDHE. Before 2011 it was not ranked as a category of leading causes. SEL is not preventing suicides. The questions go on in the KCTC survey to introduce and normalize students to all forms of drugs and bad behaviors. The unreliable data collected from the KCTC survey along with a Youth Risk Behavior Survey Surveillance System from the CDC, and the Family Engagement Survey (yes students are asked to report on family life) are used to make Climate Measures reports on students and their school. The SEL curriculum is being taught to mold and groom minds of children at the most impressionable age to be compliant with SEL norms that give more attention to harmful behaviors and death than to healthy lifestyles. CASEL has moved SEL to become more radicalized with its transformative agenda.     Conservatively Speaking KSGOP Chairman Mike Brown Kansas' High-Stakes Bet on Panasonic: A Risky Proposition for Taxpayers Kansas, enticed by the admittedly tempting allure of economic growth and job creation, has made a substantial wager on Panasonic's foray into the electric vehicle (EV) market. Yet, this colossal bet on the future of EVs comes with significant financial and political ramifications, a gamble that, should it falter, will echo for decades across the state's economy and political landscape. The stakes are high as Panasonic, drawn by an unprecedented package of taxpayer-funded incentives, sets its sights on Kansas to build a mammoth EV battery production facility. The promised influx of jobs and economic stimuli proved irresistible, leading to a poorly structured agreement between Kansas and Panasonic cloaked in secrecy and inked with optimism. However, concerns continue to arise amidst this veil of anticipation. The uncertainty surrounding EV consumer demand casts a shadow over this ambitious endeavor. While a group of 3,900 US auto dealers rallies against federal regulations mandating a substantial percentage of EV sales by 2032, citing tepid consumer interest due to high costs, charging infrastructure limitations, and concerns over range limitations in extreme weather and towing scenarios, the disconnect (pun intended) between policy ambitions and market readiness becomes painfully apparent. The Biden administration's environmental initiatives, striving for emission reduction and a swift transition to EVs, align with the ridiculous and unattainable global sustainability goals. However, the practicality of these mandates in light of consumer preferences and economic feasibility remains a significant bone of contention. A White House spokesperson rebuffed claims of coercion, emphasizing that the proposed mileage standards don't compel the purchase or sale of EVs but rather set performance-based targets. Yet, the stark reality persists: the average price of a Battery-Powered Electric Vehicle (BEV) stands at a prohibitive $66,000 for most Americans, highlighting a significant affordability gap. The impending outcome of Kansas' monumental bet on Panasonic remains shrouded in uncertainty and uncontrollable and unpredictable economic waves coming one after another. The lack of concrete assurances, the mammoth investment, and the hyper-fragile landscape of the EV market cast doubts on the prudence of this venture. Should the Panasonic deal falter amidst wavering consumer demand for EVs and as other alternative fuel-source designs come forward, the repercussions would reverberate through the Kansas economy from border to border, leaving the unsuspecting taxpayers burdened with the devastating aftermath and a massive financial - and possible environmental - cleanup that could set Kansas back for a decade or more. As Kansans watch the fate of this pivotal deal, the looming question arises: what contingency plans exist if this grand gamble fails? The continual quiet chatter and unease among elected officials underscores the fragility of this undertaking and the potential toll it could take on the state's financial and political landscape. The realistic downside should things go South would be crippling to Kansas’ future. In the delicate dance between ambition and risk, Kansas balances on a precipice, wagering its future on the uncertain tides of a rapidly evolving automotive industry. Only time will reveal whether this daring venture heralds prosperity or precipitates unforeseen consequences. And if it’s the latter, it will require a lot more than a charging station to fix this dead battery.     KSGOP Winter Convention Date and Venue Set Kansas Day Weekend Meeting Celebration Returns The Kansas Republican Party Annual Winter Convention and State Committee Meeting Announced Overland Park/CD3 was selected per the rotation of past Winter Conventions. This convention is going to be fun and incredibly educational, so don’t delay in making your plans as soon as possible!     Meet the KSGOP National Committeeman and Committewoman Candidates As the KSGOP State Committee Meeting on January 27, 2024 approaches, here is a chance to get to know each of the individuals who are official candidates. The KSGOP Bylaws (see below) specifically detail that the KSGOP Executive Director or the KSGOP Secretary must be notified by a candidate no less than seven days before the official Winter State Committee meeting. Several candidates have officially declared their candidacy to the KSGOP including (alphabetically by last name) Wendy Bingesser, Maria Holiday, Mark Kahrs, and Mark Steffen. Other interested candidates should read and follow the KSGOP Constitution and Bylaws available at www.kansas.gop and then expect to receive a written confirmation from the Executive Director or Secretary confirming said notification. If you have submitted a notification but did not receive a confirmation, please resend it and ask for a received receipt. Each official candidate is eligible to supply a short narrative to Mike Brown at [email protected] regarding their experience, qualifications, endorsements, and any other pertinent information plus a picture of themselves. The KSGOP leadership, all members of the State Committee, and all Precinct Committeemen/women, in their official party capacity, are forbidden from endorsement, backing, or supporting candidates participating in primary elections, including inner-party races. This rule applies to the race for Kansas National Committeeman/woman. Certainly, all Kansas Republicans (including me) reserve the right to personally endorse any Republican candidate in any race at any time in their personal and private capacity. I discourage all elected and party Republicans from endorsements as they create unnecessary division and hard feelings when the KSGOP is now coming together and readying for 2024. Unity First! Election Rules Kansas Republican Party: Bylaws, Paragraph 8 Election of NCM/NCW National Committeeman and National Committeewoman (B) STATE COMMITTEE OFFICERS State Committee Membership Not Required: It shall not be necessary for any officer of the state committee to be a member of the state committee at the time of his or her election. Election: Elective officers of the state committee shall be elected by secret ballot, except in the case of uncontested elections. To have their name placed in nomination for any elected state party position, a candidate must provide the state party Secretary or Executive Director written notice of their intent to have their name placed into nomination seven (7) days before the election date. The Secretary or Executive Director will inform all state committee members and alternate members of all candidates for state party office no later than five (5) days before the election date. Republican National Committee Governing Rule No. 2 Election of NCM/NCW National Committeeman and National Committeewoman (a) Method of Election (1) Where the rules adopted by a state Republican Party provides a method of election of the national committeeman and the national committeewoman; they shall be elected pursuant to such method. (2) Where the rules adopted by a state Republican Party does not provide a method of election of the national committeeman and the national committeewoman, and where state laws do provide such a method of election, they shall be elected pursuant to such method provided by state laws. (3) Where neither the rules adopted by a state Republican Party nor state laws provide a method of election of the national committeeman and the national committeewoman, the national convention delegation from such state shall elect them. (6) Prior to the convening of each national convention, the chairman of the delegation from each state shall submit the names of the elected national committee members to the secretary of the convention and their election shall be ratified by the national convention if otherwise in accordance with these rules.     Kansas National Committeeman     DR.
