McDonald’s responds to our demands for decency by ignoring the health of workers in 95% of its stores.

Coronavirus Update: McDonald's won't change paid sick leave policy for workers in 95% of its stores. Tweet at McDonald's now!

John,

After thousands of us called on McDonald's to give workers paid sick leave, and hundreds of workers went on strike in Florida, we got a response from McDonald's: Only corporate McDonald's employees in quarantine will get 2 weeks of paid sick leave. That still excludes hundreds of thousands of cooks and cashiers nationwide that work in franchise stores.

Tweet at McDonald's and demand they protect ALL workers who wear their uniform. Give us paid sick leave NOW!

McDonald's is leaving behind workers in 95% of their stores. It's a disgrace and we won't let them get away with it.

Tweet at McDonald's and tell them to make sure ALL of us get paid sick leave.

Thank you for your help to get us paid sick leave. We'll let you know how they respond soon.

SIGN NOW: Tell McDonald's to give workers paid sick leave NOW.

John,

If I got sick with the coronavirus, I don't know what I'd do. That's not okay – act now.

I work 6 days a week at McDonald's in Kansas City making $11.50 an hour. As a single mom, my teenage boys depend on me to keep the lights on and put food on the table. The last time I called in sick, I couldn't pay my electric bill and had to beg the utility company for an extension.

But McDonald's refuses to give workers like me paid sick leave. Most of us have no choice – either we come into work sick or we end up on the streets.

Tell McDonald's: stop putting workers AND the public's lives at risk – we need paid sick days!

My coworkers and I all know if one of us got sick with the coronavirus it could create a domino effect. Even with each of us doing our best, it could easily go from a sick worker to the customer to the community...

We can't let that happen. McDonald's can't let that happen.

In response to the coronavirus, McDonald's cancelled their global convention to protect executives and franchise owners, but they've refused to make meaningful changes to protect more than 850,000 workers and 68 million customers per day.

That's why we're demanding McDonald's take action to protect their workers and the public:

  1. Provide paid sick leave to all workers who wear the McDonald's uniform, including for the full length of any quarantine period, in the event that they or their immediate family members show symptoms of possible COVID-19 infection;

  2. Update its safety protocols to maximally protect workers from COVID-19;

  3. Pay workers for any missed shifts if a McDonald's restaurant is required to close due to the potential spread of COVID-19;

  4. Provide protections that mitigate harmful economic effects on workers and lay out a fair process for return to work in the event of an economic downturn; and

  5. Post its COVID-19 policy in all stores and immediately train all managers and workers on this policy.

Sign the petition: demand McDonald's provide paid leave to ALL workers and take action to protect us from coronavirus!
