Hi there —

The Coronavirus, or COVID-19, has become a global pandemic and I want you to know that I’m doing everything I can to keep our communities safe.

In Congress, we’re working on several measures to protect our communities, guarantee paid sick leave, and make sure low-income children have what they need while schools and community centers have temporarily closed.

I’m proud to say that Congress passed a $8.2 billion Coronavirus supplemental, and as a senior appropriator, I’m pushing for resources to address the pandemic.

In the meantime, I want to make sure you have the most up-to-date information on how to keep you and your loved ones safe during this time.

First and foremost -- if you’re sick, stay home! I know low-income communities are much more vulnerable to the virus and can often not afford to miss work, but please stay home if you’re able to prevent the spread of the virus.

If you develop a fever, cough, or shortness of breath, call your doctor! Please call your health care provider BEFORE seeking care. Precautions must be taken on their end as well.

Practice good hygiene: wash your hands for at least 20 seconds (signing Happy Birthday twice is a good trick!), avoid touching your face, cover your cough or sneezes, disinfect frequently touched objects (cell phones, door knobs, and light switches come to mind).

If you’d like more information, visit the Center for Disease Control’s website for more tips to stay safe and healthy. [[link removed]]

Thank you to our health care professionals who risk their own health and safety for those of others; and thank you to everyone who is doing what they can to stop the spread of the virus.

Take care of yourselves. Make sure you and your loved ones do everything they can to stay healthy. Politics can wait a few days, this is much more important.

In solidarity,

Barbara Lee
