A huge swath of our movement is extremely online—this is an incredible strength. There’s tons we can do in the digital space to amplify our efforts.

Dear John,

With so many of us unable to gather because of precautions for COVID-19, it’s understandable to feel a little isolated. But just revel in this: our movement-wide effort to keep each other and those around us at risk safe is a prime example of just how united we really are. That selfless solidarity is something to celebrate.

And though we can’t march in the streets or knock on doors at the moment, there is so much each of us can do to push forward our mission to win a Green New Deal and prop up Bernie Sanders, the presidential candidate we think is best to get it done.

Here’s how you can take action right now:

Guide the Narrative

A huge swath of our movement is extremely online—this is an incredible strength. There’s tons we can do in the digital space to amplify our efforts.

Throughout today and through the weekend, Sunrise will be posting video clips and articles on social media that highlight the generational divide in the remaining candidates’ voter bases and the issues that create this divide.

We need your help to spread these messages—share them, retweet them, start discussions about them in Facebook groups and Twitter threads, send them out to family and friends (and urge them to spread the message to their connections, too).

Then, help us flood the debate question box by submitting suggestions that center the issues we care so much about, like immigration, the climate crisis, student loan debt, gun violence, voting rights, and more.

The goal is to make this narrative inescapable and to put pressure on the establishment to address our concerns in the debate on Sunday. Make sure you’re following the Sunrise Facebook and Twitter accounts so you don’t miss anything.

Don’t forget to allow yourself some room to get creative. So many of us do this daily—making and sharing memes, circulating clever political commentary—you know what will resonate with your personal network best. Use that savvy to your advantage.

Remote Phone Banks

We may not be able to knock on doors, but phone banking is the next best thing. It’s that person to person connection that resonates with people long after we finish speaking with them.

Remember, this presidential race isn’t all that’s at stake. To win a Green New Deal, we need to have champions at all levels of government. Candidates like Morgan Harper (OH-03), Robert Emmons Jr. (IL-01), and Marie Newman (IL-03) need our help to make calls.

These calls are incredibly effective at letting voters know they have a progressive alternative, and virtual phone banks are a place we can gather on video and check in with each other.

Click here to register to phone bank on Sunday or Monday.

If we work together, we can focus our digital power and make a huge difference for our Green New Deal champions in the next 5 days, coronavirus be damned.
