Dear Neighbors,
On Wednesday, state officials released details of the latest economic forecast and it shows that Minnesota is projected to be facing a budget deficit in the near future.
This is unsurprising because Democrat majorities in the House, Senate, and Gov. Walz raised overall government spending by nearly 40%. In addition to growing the size of government to historic levels, they also blew through the entire $17.5 billion budget surplus and raised taxes by nearly $10 billion.
Last year, the legislature had a unique opportunity to provide Minnesota families with the tax relief that they deserve by returning the surplus back to the people. Extra money in your family budget would have helped soften the impacts of soaring inflation and higher prices for everyday goods and services. In fact, a new?CBS report?found that families in Minnesota are spending nearly $13,000 more in 2023 just to maintain the same standard of living that they had in 2021.
While the state?s economic outlook is uncertain, one thing is clear?Democrats are driving Minnesota off a fiscal cliff with their unsustainable tax and spend agenda. These are the consequences of one-party control in Minnesota and even more reason why we need balance in St. Paul.
