As we continue our #WeShowUp End of Year Fundraising Campaign, we wish to spotlight two of our partners working to advance food sovereignty: La Via Campesina International and Mouvman Peyizan Papay (MPP). La Via Campesina was formed by peasant movements in the early 1990s to demand that people, not corporations, shape their own food and agriculture practices. Grassroots International is proud to have accompanied La Via Campesina since its early days, and our partnership has only deepened over the years. We currently support operations of La Via Campesina on the global, regional, and national levels, as well as partner with many of its member organizations. In fact, three of our staff are currently in Colombia participating in La Via Campesina’s international meeting.
“When we received word of this honor during our Food Sovereignty Camp, 450 young peasant leaders let out a thunderous cry of joy,” said MPP leader Jusléne Tyresias. “Through MPP’s 50-year history, Haiti’s peasants have persisted, not only confronting multiple crises head-on, but planting seeds – literally and figuratively – for our people to live with dignity, safety, and sovereignty.” Will you support this critical work of food sovereignty for another 50 years going forward?
Your support has been essential to the wins of the food sovereignty movement, and we need your continued support to propel these social movements forward into the future and towards liberation. In Solidarity, The Staff at Grassroots International
