April 2024 marks the official 23rd anniversary of Sexual Assault Awareness Month – a campaign that calls attention to the fact that sexual harassment, assault, and abuse are widespread and impact every person in the community. SAAM aims to raise public awareness about sexual violence and educate communities on how to prevent it.

This week we revealed the theme of the Sexual Assault Awareness Month 2024 campaign, Building Connected Communities.” We must strive to create strong, connected communities that take care of one another. Communities that make decisions to ensure the safety and well-being of all its members are critical to ending sexual violence worldwide.

Building Connected Communities recognizes that sexual violence impacts survivors, their loved ones, our communities, and society as a whole. We must address all abuses of power to prevent sexual violence. When one of us is not safe or respected, it impacts everyone. As such, it is up to all of us to prevent this type of violence before it occurs.

Between now and April, NSVRC will be working behind the scenes to create free materials to support you in educating and engaging your community this Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

With your support over the years, advocates have reached out to their communities during SAAM to show visible support for survivors and educate community members on their role in creating a safer world. On this twenty-third anniversary of SAAM, we’re asking you to join us in building equity and respect within our communities. Will you join us this April?

P.S Stay tuned for more updates on ways to get involved, like participating in the #30DaysofSAAM Instagram Challenge and sharing #SAAM2024 graphics and materials on social media.
