Dear John,
Happy Friday! I hope you all had a wonderful week.
I wanted to touch on one thing before I get started with my regular update. On Wednesday, the IRS announced that they will be taxing the rebate checks sent to Minnesotans earlier this year. This decision shocked me – as it was a complete 180 from previous IRS guidance. I’ve written to IRS Commissioner Danny Werfel, demanding an explanation for this inconsistent guidance – because you deserve the peace of mind to know that you will receive the full payments you were promised. I’ll keep you all updated on what I hear back.
Yesterday, I hosted my 60th Town Hall since being elected to Congress. Farmington Mayor Joshua Hoyt joined me for a robust discussion on USPS service in the South Metro and I also got to answer a lot of your questions on everything from the opioid crisis to Social Security.
Our town hall discussions have covered everything from the opioid crisis, the importance of protecting Social Security and how we can best support Second District law enforcement. I’m constantly impressed by the number of you who show up, ready to have these important conversations – and I walk away from every town hall feeling grateful to represent such an engaged and dedicated group of constituents.
A huge thank you everyone who showed up for the first 60 and I’m looking forward to many, many more!
Here’s what else I was up to this week:
Making sure your tax dollars are spent responsibly
It’s Congress’ job to make sure your taxpayer dollars are spent responsibly. This week, I introduced a bipartisan bill to revoke federally funded retirement benefits from expelled Members of Congress.
Hearing from Minnesota’s ag leaders and educators
Dakota and I got to welcome Kristy and Scott from Minnesota’s Agriculture and Rural Leadership Group to DC this week! We had a great conversation about how we can work together to ensure that Minnesota’s family farmers and producers have what they need as they do the critical work of feeding and fueling our country.
Working to lower health care costs
I spent a lot of time in Energy and Commerce this week – working to find bipartisan consensus and send commonsense bills to the House Floor to lower costs and make health care more accessible.
Behind the scenes with Rep. Craig:
Cheryl and I had a great time at the White House Holiday Ball this week. Check out these decorations!
That’s my update for you all! Have a great weekend – and we’ll talk next week!
Until next time,
Angie Craig
Member of Congress
