Ruth’s List Florida is excited to announce our final endorsement of the year — Luisa Santos for Miami-Dade County School Board, District 9! Luisa was first elected to the Miami-Dade School Board in 2020. Ruth’s List is excited to work with Luisa to keep this seat in the hands of a strong leader and passionate advocate for the students, teachers, and parents of the country’s third largest school district.

Luisa moved to Miami when she was eight years old from Bogota, Columbia and began speaking fluent English just one year later at the age of nine, which she attributes to her education as a Miami-Dade County public school student. During her high school years, she persisted in her journey pursuing citizenship and became a proud U.S. Citizen upon completing her higher education at Miami-Dade College. While studying Political Economy and Education at Georgetown University, Luisa interned at the U.S. Department of Education in Washington, D.C. during President Obama’s tenure. She knows first-hand that teachers and staff can change the lives of students and aspires to continue advocating for students in her community in District 9.
