Well, who would’ve thunk it? I guess the First Amendment applies to Christians as well.
The Capitol Christmas tree has been accepting ornaments from the public for ages, but the rules used to say no religious symbols are allowed. That meant no nativity scenes or anything of the sort. But things took a turn this year, and I praise the Lord for it. The ban on religious symbols for "the People's Tree" has been lifted. So, now we can truly embrace the essence of Christmas and ensure that Christ remains a central part of our celebrations. It is his birthday after all…
This First Amendment reminder couldn’t have come at a better time as our nation deals with a real mess of antisemitism, and it's downright sickening to see it spreading like wildfire. Now, in case you missed the memo, the big-shot presidents from Harvard, MIT, and UPenn paraded themselves up on the Hill just the other day. They were given the floor to talk about the rising antisemitism on their campuses.
Among the many outrageous things we heard, their responses when asked repeatedly if calling for the genocide of Jews constitutes harassment were a disgrace.
"We have heard chants which can be antisemitic depending on the context when calling for the elimination of the Jewish people," MIT President Sally Kornbluth said.
CAN BE?
These higher education institutions already cost an arm and a leg, but to make matters worse, young Jewish folks now have to pay the price of harassment and threats. Is this not America? Antisemitism on our college campuses (or anywhere for that matter) is unacceptable.
This country was founded on the basic principles of religious freedom for all. These woke institutions have bent over backward for every other so-called marginalized group, but now they’re ready to stick their heads in the sand when our Jewish family, friends, and neighbors need them most. If that’s the plan, they better be in it for the long haul because I know I speak for many of us when I say we’re not letting this one go. We will not rest until these students feel safe.
As our Jewish friends celebrate Hanukkah over the next several days, there has never been a better time to renew our commitment to standing with them and defending their right to exist in some dadgum peace.
Chag sameach to all of my dear friends and colleagues who partake in the Festival of Lights.
